THE ROLE OF THE TRAFFIC POLICE DEPARTMENT
 
1. Prevention of road accidents.
2. Investigation of road accidents and maintenance of related data.
3. Facilitation of the smooth flow of traffic on roadways, including the provision of escorts for VIPs.
4. Enforcement of traffic laws and regulations.
5. Apprehension and prosecution of traffic offenders.
6. Promotion of road safety awareness to the public through various media, lectures in educational institutions, and public forums.
7. Collection of accident statistics and data, including the conducting of research and planning on a nationwide scale.
8. Provision of information regarding traffic matters to the press, media, and the general public.
9. Enforcement of axle-load regulations in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Roads Development.
10. Conducting annual inspections of all public service vehicles, as well as commercial and private vehicles, prior to licensing or registration.
11. Inspection and certification of the roadworthiness of vehicles in operation.
12. Examination of accident vehicles to identify and determine pre-accident defects.
13. Testing of drivers and issuance of certificates of competence.
14. Monitoring the movement of government vehicles.
15. Recruitment, training, and deployment of Traffic Police officers.
16. Management of any other traffic-related matters as may be directed from time to time.
